Trend Report: SS19/20

Trend Report: SS19/20

Ah Summer! It's such a fun season here in Australia, full of parties, Christmas events and long beach days. As the weather warms up, we inevitably start planning our summer wardrobe and eyeing off the new key pieces that we want to introduce.

As the one in charge of the buying decisions for The Nowhere Nation, interpreting fashion and runway trends in a way that allows pieces to stand the test of time is of utmost importance. I like to be guided by trends but not ruled by them. For this season, like many others, I have been inspired by a broad mix of influences and trends, which means that there is really a little something for everyone.  From sculptural high heels to chunky sneakers and all that's in-between, here are a few of our favourite trends that I think will help take your summer wardrobe to the next level!

Welcome To The Jungle-

Animal prints never really go out of style, but they are back in a big way at the moment. Snakeskin is at the forefront and I love it as it is one of the easiest ways to add interest to an outfit. I opt for more neutral tones, and that way they can become a basic for your wardrobe. I also always recommend these for clients who aren't as keen on a colourful shoe, as these still add visual texture and that bit of wow.

Barely There -

With a serious 90s feel to them, barely-there sandals have well and truly invaded the shoe-niverse. I love this trend, but understand that for our clients, it isn't always the most practical of trends so I chose to just introduce 1 style from our favourite South Korean designer, Reike Nen. Reike Nen is known for their exceptional quality and comfort and these heels are no exception. The padded footbed is a delight and with their contrasting light blue insole they really are a step above the rest of those strappy sandals out there.

Summer Brights -

A few words come to mind when I think of Summer and colourful is definitely one of them. I always love to include bright, bold colours into our collection as I truly believe that a statement shoe can lift you up, brighten your day and just take your outfit to another level! Sunshine yellows, hot pinks and bold blues were popular colours on the runway for SS19 and I was able to find these fabulous pieces from a range of our designers that really help you stand out from the crowd!.

(Kat Maconie / Mona / Multi / $340)

(Baltarini / Penelope / Orange / $430)

Sculptural Heels -

The trend of unique heels started a while ago, and it definitely shows no signs of slowing down. Jacquemus first introduced his interpretation of sculptural heels in its autumn ready-to-wear collection in 2017 and since then a tonne of other designers have followed suit in their own way. Designers have really been thinking about how they can reimagine a basic heel and looking more towards the act of making shoes into wearable pieces of art.

I am always blown away with the styles from Kat Maconie (Nyla and Joan featured below) and I also worked with Baltarini to develop the Chiara for our collection which has been a real winner as they are so comfortable.

(Kat Maconie / Nyla / Black / $425)

(Baltarini / Chiara / Turquoise / $365)

(Kat Maconie / Joan / Nude / $435)

(Lola Cruz / Yonsy / Taupe / $385)

Chunky, Sport-Inspired Sneakers -

Sneakers really are a year-round godsend! For the warmer months, it's a great idea to opt for lighter colours such as white or blush pink. What's great about sneakers is that you can wear them these days from day to night, to the office to and then out on the weekend which is fabulous.

On the runways, the sneakers have gotten much chunkier than seasons gone by and we have introduced a new style from Billi Bi. This style is great for pairing with your activewear for running around during the day or styles with a silk skirt/dress for something more done up. If you find yourself erring on the side of a more sleek approach, our exclusive Angie sneakers by Life still have an element of chunkiness with their platform sole.

(Life / Angie / Sand / $245)
